Decision on Revocation Deferred

The full PKC meeting has deferred a decision on revocation of the consent for the Incinerator at Shore Road. Brian Riane gave a presentation on behalf of BGKCC. Word file: Brian Raine's Speech 24th March 2010 (35KB)

Councillor Millar moved the motion for deferral relying on grounds to win the appeal and PKC's ownership of the ground. The Councillors were told they could revisit this and ask for another report in 6 months.

Councillor Mclellan said we should face up to the mistakes, that the development was against the development plan and 4 years of indecision was enough.

Councillor Caddell pointed out that the Officials' Report did not provide a detailed analysis of revocation

The motion was carried 27-8.

Obviously, as our Community Councillors led by Dave Beattie and Brian Raine and supported by Denis Munro, Douglas Fulton and Joe Cairns have worked so hard to try to achieve revocation as the only sure way to see off this development we are very disappointed.

We do not feel that the case for revocation is undiminished and would have been the safest and surest way to end this very lengthy and sorry saga. However, given what Councillor Caddell said it is perhaps not surprising that Councillors voted in favour of the weighted argument put forward to do nothing. What is more surprising is the decision on deferral which was not in the Report. Having had 4 years overall and 4 months since the DCC Meeting of 24th November Councillors should not have had to ask for another report.

Had BGK CC not fought this development so strongly we might well be in a position where this incinerator had already been given the green light.

We will now prepare our additional material for the Reporter and will fight the appeal as we think the route being taken by the Council is avery risky one.
