Bridgend Regeneration

The threat of closure hanging over Bridgend Post Office has refocused our attention on the run down state of the area. At least 9 premises are empty and many buildings are dilapidated.

We are very grateful to our M.S.P. Roseanna Cunningham who accepted our invitation to visit Bridgend in July. She pointed out that Bridgend is a gateway to Perth and gives a very bad first impression of the city. She said that a major regeneration project is needed. She will enquire about PKC's powers to require repair of private property and promised to raise the issue with Perth & Kinross Council and push for extra funds.

Councillor Peter Barrett has asked Ken MacDonald, head of economic development, whether it is possible to find funding for a feasibility study for a regeneration package for Bridgend possibly through the chamber of commerce or others.  He has also asked what scope there is for a local development trust although this would be a significant undertaking requiring commitment from local businesses and the community.

We think that an hour's free parking would be a significant help to the businesses at Bridgend and will try to secure that as a first step.

If you have any ideas contact us or come to our meeting on 18th September.
